A high-level team will inspect Chennai Airport ahead of the inauguration of some important passenger amenities, including part of the new integrated terminal and the multi-level car park.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Sanjeev Kumar and a team of officials from New Delhi will hold a high-level meeting here on Thursday and Friday.

According to AAI officials, the inspection of the airside facilities, the new integrated terminal building and the multi-level parking lot will take place on Thursday and the meeting is scheduled for Friday.

“There is a lot of interest in Chennai Airport and the need to improve it. The inspection is crucial now as the multi-level car park will be inaugurated by the end of the month and the new integrated building by December. The team of managers will see how the work is progressing and how the terminal looks and the upcoming facilities in the building,” an official said.

Sources said ways to reduce congestion at the airport and the need to increase runway capacity for more aircraft movements would likely be the focus of discussions.

Expectations are high among passengers for the new integrated terminal, which is under construction as part of the Phase II modernization project taken over at a cost of nearly ₹2,500 crore.

While the construction of the terminal has been underway for a few years now, the multi-level car park has been completed, but for some required approvals. Officials said approvals would likely be given within a week.
