LISBON — The Columbiana County Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services is accepting applications from candidates interested in filling vacancies on the board.
The Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board (CCMHRSB) works with people in recovery, family members and community partners to meet community needs and ensure that families and people affected by mental illness and substance abuse have access to high-quality care. .
Focusing on prevention, treatment, and recovery, the CCMHRSB administers public funds to promote healthy behaviors, support rehabilitation, and advocate for recovery from mental illness and substance use disorders.
The Council works with a number of partners – including schools, law enforcement, elected officials, the Department of Employment and Family Services, the criminal justice system, and more. – to assess the needs of the county and define priorities. The Commission contracts services with agencies that have the appropriate credentials and licenses and evaluates the effectiveness of these services.
The CCMHRSB receives state and federal funding, as well as local levies. This funding is used to support community programs and services.
While the CCMHRSB is governed by a Board of Directors made up of volunteer members, a staff of six handle the day-to-day operations of the Board, including Executive Director Marcy Patton, Chief Financial Officer Delores Bailey, Director of Processing Services and support Lori Colian, Recovery Coordinator Maureen Waybright, Director of Outreach and Community Relations Jennifer Whitman, and Administrative Secretary Shirley Carter.
The volunteer board members are passionate about helping the citizens of Columbiana County. Members have varied professional and personal backgrounds. They include people who have received services, family members of people with mental illness or addiction, recovery and mental health experts, health professionals and others interested in community behavioral health. Current board members are Sara Baer, April Caruso-Richards, Austin Dalrymple, Phillip
Davis, Nancy Francis, Brenda Hamilton, Belinda Niswonger, Jessica Oates, Sara Pease, Barbara Stamp and Robert Steffen. There are currently a number of full term and partial term seats open. Full-time members serve four-year terms.
Board members must be residents of Columbiana County and must commit to attending monthly meetings and participating in committee work and levy promotion activities. Employees of agencies under contract with the Council are not permitted to sit on the Council.
